ACCESS CONTROL SYSTEMS

Access control is the selective restriction of access to a place or other resource. Access

control is often used at the entrance to a property or restricted room. Access Control

refers to using technology as opposed to using a set of keys or a receptionist to secure

an area. Electronic access control takes this further by tracing who accessed which

areas of the building and when.

Using computer technology greatly exceeds the versatility conventional security locks and

keys offer. An electronic access control system allows people to proceed to restricted

areas based on the credentials they present. These credentials may be as simple as a pin

code or as complex as a bio-metric reading of their physical attributes.

Using an electronic access control system allows cardholder access rights to be revoked

site wide instantly improving security and crisis response. Employers can use the software reports to see the length

of time workers have been on site as well as where they have been and if they have attempted to access

unauthorized areas. Access control systems will also monitor the door and raise alarms if the door is forced open

or held open too long after being unlocked.
